Diesel alternatives

I'm considering going 'green' with the gas oil I order, but not sure which of the various alternatives is the best value for money green alternative to red diesel (because it seems like there are a few options).

I've heard things about HVO fuel, GTL and FAME biodiesel and I like the sound of them as I won't need to modify my machinery to use them, but given that they're likely dearer I'd like to know the community's opinion on which one to go for and which suppliers might be best.

Gas to liquid is not green. Its diesel made using natural gas. Burns cleaner however.

The closest you will get is fatty acid methyl ester biodiesel which is based on heavily modified vegetable oils. I dare say like most fuels it will contain significant amounts of various additives.

Not all engines will run on biodiesel at high inclusions. You can also obtain biodegradable lubricants and greases.

I had not heard of HVO. Im not sure how it differs but it appears to be superior to FME and is a drop in replacement to regular diesel. It would be interesting to see the price difference.
