Watching news night and the Diesel engine is now officially the spawn of satan.
Responsible for all air pollution everywhere apparently .
Never mind the rest of the world doing sod all to reduce emissions .
Paying a premium now for machines because of manufacturers research and development costs to meet the Tier 4 and soon to be Tier 5 emissions regulations.
Government is going to dry hump anyone with a Diesel engine shortly to tax them out of existence.
You have been warned !!.
Great excuse for Hmrc to raise some serious dosh.
Makes you wonder if Donald is right and the whole thing is just the biggest money making scam the world has ever seen.

Ban all Petrol/Diesel engines out of them.... overnight clean Air job sorted.
I'll put money on an Air Quailty Expert coming out here & checking the Air coz theres nowt wrong with it.
Iam not convinced about Global Warming mind... am with Donald on that one.
Man alone cant change the whole weather system on a planet. it will do what it does & thats the end of it.
Stop half as many Planes flying here there & everywhere. how much do they pump out on one trip?
Bring it on UK GOV i cant wait too see there magic fix...

the Developing world has a lot to answer for here mind.

Agree that more should be done in Cities and aeroplanes first. Diesels are dirty though. Nitrous Oxides

One of my best friends is director level at a very specialist filter company.
In very loose layman's terms, he was telling me the later euro tiers of emissions using dpf filters made the pollution problem hidden, but much more dangerous. Apparently, in essence the filters are converting large heavy soot partials which fell out of the air quickly, and made them into very fine partials which hang around in the air, and can penetrate much further and more permanently into the lungs.

Really..... hmmmm
i have one of these £20 roadtax VW Engined Diesel machines with a DPF & even when its doing a regen there is still nowt visible to the human eye that comes out its exhaust.... v sneaky all the same..
So its actually better having none of this tech & just pumping the black smoke out....
Id still pay more to just drive a DIESEL anything over ever having to go back to a PETROL engine..

Electric is the only way then

were doomed

Yup, they are very fine partials, hence invisible to the human eye.
One sub company my friend is involved in (called Bacta-scan i think), makes, amongst other things, filters for premature baby incubators. I strongly believe my friend knows what he is talking about.

There are two political problems involved in hitting diesels too hard too quickly-
Firstly many voters now own diesel vehicles
Secondly cities are totally dependent on deliveries by diesel powered commercial vehicles

I think that we will not see anything drastic - rather pressure to get older vehicles off the road, especially in the biggest city centres

New direct injection petrol engines have higher levels of nitrogen oxides than older type systems.
All that seems to happen is reduce a pollutant to find a new more dangerous one.
When will some one do a whole life study of emissions for a vehicle , I am tending to think a modern common rail diesel without egr dpf (not just mapped out) would bee less polluting over its whole life in the real world environment.

One of the major problems as I said before.
is not monitoring individual cars , vans and taxis better. Since Gordon Brown gave them the green light to burn just about anything, man are running on fuels never designed by the manufacturers to go theough the system, ie. unrefined veg oil, old oil, waste sump oil and heating fuel. Many is the time we see people promoting using 2 stroke oil even on here.
Back street MOT stations are colluding with this, by removing particulate filter and falsifying the tests, that is of course if the vehicle has been tested, it is known that up to 30% of cars in some cities are not taxed or insured, what hope that they have tests? Or maintained in any way.

To combat this I've heard Ford are doing a recall on the Ranger pickups.

All 2.2 diesels are to have there engines replaced with 1.0 ecoboost petrols:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

The 3.2s are getting there engines swapped for V8s out of the Ford GT:p:p:p

Why ? petrol better anyway rise of the diesel was just because it went further and was cheaper.
