Anyone tried any cheap head on scales. Clock is gone on my old Poldenvale weigh bridge, would go digital if I could get one for not much more than clock. Don’t weigh that many to justify fancy set
Cheers

Ritchie are selling a digital conversion on their website for a lamb weighbridge for £197 ex vat.
Digital Weigh-Head Conversion Kit | Ritchie (ritchie-d.co.uk)

Reckon i've found the exact same one on Amazon for £42.00! Have it ordered and on its way to me.
They look identical. Worth a try.

Hanging Scale 660Lb 300Kg for Farm, Hunting, Bow Draw Weight, Big Fish & Hoyer Lift with Accurate Sensor (Digital, Professional, Light Case) : Amazon.co.uk: Business, Industry & Science
Bought one of these from ebay for under £20, waste of money, there is no tare setting, so you have to subtract the weight of the crate and the display is virtually invisible in sunlight.

Wonder does the Richie one still bounce about like the spring clock compared to the like of allied weighing ?
i doubt it , because
the digital ones don't need the mechanical spring bit so less movement.
the digital /electronic bit should capture an average weight as it moves about quite quickly then it freeze he readout so to speak with the animals weight figure not changing iyswim.

I tried my scale out this morning where it's been hanging in the workshop for months. The "tare" button locks the display, but there is no zeroing as on a Ritchie type spring balance, so if the cage weighs say 27.5kg this would have to be subtracted from the lamb's weight. I would imagine that more expensive load cells would have a differential weight facility. The display is visible inside, but outside you can't see it in sunshine unless you are right next to it, need some form of cover. The operating instructions state the unit is only for indoor use, we leave our lamb weigher out in all weather, perhaps a waterproof cover/cowl could be added, or detach the unit after each use.

the 'zeroing is in the weigh head electronics ,not the weighcell bit. we have and older allied weighing supplied one which is fine but needed a bit of switch and button maintenance through moisture ingress, hes indoors all the time now and fine, then a trutest one does theoutside and rougher jobs tougher box etc, and more 'steady' zero.but more costly of course.

Has anyone got experience with the O'Donovan conversation kit? The Tru-test weigh heads they sell, look a bit more rugged and water tight.

a trutest weigh is water tight ,and after all that would be a basic requirement .

the S3 is a good little bottom of the range unit. works well not frills like people seem to need nowadays ,but nonthe less quick to get a weight and reliable zeroing.

gallagher do a one the same spec bit less money , they will all calibrate themselves and theres a suspension cell from both makers that will be self calibrating to them weigh heads at least.
