My experience with direct drilling into pumpkins is it's better to leave them whole otherwise the whole field becomes super glue.Topped off the leftover pumpkins and whacked in ~300kg wheat/rye blend. Possibly this drill's last outing with us, looking at a new Avatar or Horizon for next year and have had both on demo.

Tried that once, got about 10 yards before all the discs were wedged solid! My experience with direct drilling into pumpkins is it's better to leave them whole otherwise the whole field becomes super glue.
Just have to accept that the following wheat crop won't be perfect.
I suppose my 3m gd has full width squashing ability, front Ritchie press and dual wheels.Tried that once, got about 10 yards before all the discs were wedged solid!
Interested to know your thoughts on the Horizon.Topped off the leftover pumpkins and whacked in ~300kg wheat/rye blend. Possibly this drill's last outing with us, looking at a new Avatar or Horizon for next year and have had both on demo.

I really liked it. Less slotty than the Avatar, excellent seed placement and much much better from a user's point of view (ever tried to empty a folded 4m Avatar?). The airbag press wheel downforce was great, and many components seem to be off-the-shelf. (for example, those airbags are standard lorry cab suspension bits). The RDS box was better thought out than the ISO kludge Horsch uses.Interested to know your thoughts on the Horizon.
Nice looks very dryView attachment 1146151
Champion WW direct drilled after beans, 25/09. Generally ok, just a few signs that the roots are waterlogged.
I like the Horizon. Angled discs and angled press wheel ensures better coverage of seed imo.I really liked it. I didn't seem to get any good pictures of the Horizon.
I think I could just about pull a 6m Horizon with my 7480, too. Waiting to see how the quotes compare now.
Claydon drilled and rolled too. Champion at 200kgs/ha on the 8th Oct.claydon drilled and rolled only About as good as it gets for me. 180kg/ha sky fall
I’m thinking about one. My GD makes a nice job on most of our ground and establishment is generally very good…BUT on our lighter soils the discs just don’t want to turn. I don’t want to go away from the angled disc, hence the Horizon could be a viable alternative.I really liked it. What seedrate are you using?View attachment 1146151

That field was 160 kg/ha. I can’t remember what the TGW was though. What seedrate are you using?
guess thats the benefit of earlier drilling.. ours drilled a week or two later at the same seedrate doesnt look half as thick as thatThat field was 160 kg/ha. I can’t remember what the TGW was though.
Into October we upped it to 190 kg/ha.guess thats the benefit of earlier drilling.. ours drilled a week or two later at the same seedrate doesnt look half as thick as that
