What are your thoughts now on the idea of building a folding one? Have you considered adding some wings?

How did you work out the tine configuration, especially with regard to the wheels?

I am thinking of extending to 4m as i have the distribution outlets to do it, horsepower isn;t a problem and it would reduce the wheelings. It might end up being 2 x 0.5m extensions though rather than making 2 x2m from scratch and then just make them so they can go negative angle and with their own dept wheels.

For the tine layout it was a bit trial and error, the 2 tines in the middle where the notches in the frame where governed where those 2 went and i wanted the tines following the wheels so they weren't pulling up wet soil to stick to the wheel. The rest sloted in, the only slight issue is i have created a couple of triangles pointing to the front in the tine layout which tends to roll the straw into a gap at the back between 2 tines which causes me a bit of an issue but still haven't figgered a better way considering some tines are fixed in their location.

I shouldn’t worry too much about floating wings; go a notch deeper on the seed depth; it will only be a couple of weeks protracted emergence then you won’t tell the difference. Think of a sprinter; it’s fixed depth across the length/width certainly at 3,4 and 6m. Not sure about wider ones but wouldn’t be surprised if they’re the same

The depth control was a bit of a how do we do it in the time available so robbed some wheels of our flatlift, they just bolted on with a couple of extra holes. I put new wheel bearings and tyres on them.View attachment 916970
Hi Wombat,

great depth control. Any idea where we can source some of those adjustable depth wheels from?

thanks for putting all that info out there about the build and the successful crops, its good to see that a simple elegant design can work.
