Disco td5 low range poor throttle response

Disco td5, manual, chipped for towing, drives normally in high range but stalls in 1st low box on hills. Dipping the clutch in low the engine will rev to over 4000rpm and feels smooth, but needs foot to the floor to move in low range. I'm sure there is something about the throttle movement changing between ranges but can't find anything in the owner's manual. Generally use low box when manoeuvring with trailers on the flat and it seems OK. Slipping the clutch at above 1500rpm works, which I don't like doing, unless on wet grass when the traction control comes in and stalls the engine. My old 300tdi managed the same hills in high range.

Have you used a tuning box or had the ECU flashed? If the former it shouldnt make any difference since it's ignorant to what the ECU is doing, and the hi/Lo switch just triggers the ecu to use a softer map.

Suspect youve had a poor ecu flash and the lo-range map has been buggered up by the flash. Speak to Alive tuning, or Allisport for a proper job.

The engine was chipped to a stage one tune a few years ago by an on site chap recommended on a LR forum who worked about 90% on td5's with a huge improvement in high and low ranges, it's just recently this problem has occurred. One thought is the engine is being started from cold and within less than a minute the pedal is to the metal trying to get up the hill, don't know if letting it idle for a few minutes might help ?

Is the EGR valve stuck open, I disconnected mine years ago, engines run a lot better without it working and better on fuel. Lots of staying power too when towing.
