Before you renew your subscription to the Rusty Tractor scheme, ask yourself 'Do I really need to join'.
I have spoken to several farmers recently who just randomly pay for RT, who suddenly realised it was pointless and have now left.
Do you just join as you believe it stops a RPA inspection.........it doesn't, it's a myth, so don't join.
Do you just sell store cattle and sheep........... then RT is pointless for you.
Do you sell cull ewes.......... nobody ever asks if they are RT, so don't pay for it.
Do you just sell fat cattle and sheep in a livestock market........... then RT is pointless for you now as it appears that the balence between RT stock and non RT stock has changed.
Do you just sell a few animals deadweight............. Is the few extra pounds you get actually cover the cost of the RT subscription and all the time and grief that goes with the paperwork / rules. If not, ditch RT
Do you just sell a few tonnes of crops............ does it cover the RT cost, or will it be better to have some sort of collabration with a neighbour ? If so, scrap your RT protection racket payment.
Unfortunately the dairy and big arable farmers are stuck with this 'voluntary' extortion racket payment, but only until we collectively all resign on mass.
The more farmers that leave, the more likely the RT pack of cards will come tumbling down. They have had 23 years of our money and it's certainly not been to British farmers benefit. They now deserve to fail.
