I prefer my kennels to face east or south east. Morning sun to warm them up but away from strong sun at midday. Shade is a must.

All my dogs are housed in individual kennels. Having multiple bitches in 1 kennel is a recipe for lethal kennel fights.

Cant say l ever had that problem but then all mine are neutered.

I suppose I could make the runs as big as I want, but taking @Dry Rot 's point about Kennel size I'll aim to keep them small to retain heat.

I was referring to the indoor sleeping area.The outside run needs to be a reasonable size.

200l plastic barrels make great sleeping areas.

We use empty whiskey barrels. The trouble is all that work emptying them.

I have six of these panels for my kennel so its 10 foot long and 5 foot wide. The back 5 foot we put a roof on for shade and shelter then in the corner beneath the roof is an insulated plastic box which is probably 3 foot by 3 foot. Its behind the house so is nice and sheltered and faces east so the driving rain comes from behind the sleeping box and it gets early morning sun. If your dogs rnt kennel or house trained then definitley consider drainage. My kennel doesn't have a water supply so I just fill up the water bowl as and when.

I like this sort, both are 8’x 4’.
The dogs seem happy in them too. One in each kennel and bedded with straw and wood shavings,
