What size should a dog run be roughly for a collie?

A run needs to be in excess of 30 acres

I use this company, mine is 10 foot by 5 foot with a roof over the back half and an insulated box in the corner. Plenty of space, she only spends a few hours in the evening In there whilst she has dinner and then sleeps inside

Depends how long you need to keep the dog a prisoner. Metal cells are cold comfort and better built from a good thickness timber for insulation. Close confinement will lead to mental health issues. Give your dog as much room and comfort as you can. After all he/she should be your best mate.

Whatever size you decide on, leave the run exposed to the weather, facing south, smooth concrete with a slope to one side with a channel down one side to a drain that goes to a decent disposal point (mine go into the domestic septic tank which probably isn't legal but works). Facing to where the dog can see some activity will aid mental health.

Make sure there is a covered lying area with a warm draught free sleeping area. I don't favour wood which is cold when wet but some form of insulation material (expanded polystyrene/kingspan/etc) with a skim of 25mm cement over the top for the sleeping area works. Gates should open inwards, hinged furtherest from the wall. Being a surveyor and pushing a room for over 60 years tends to concentrate the mind!
