Another record breaking performance from Trump - first president to be impeached for a second time. Ten Republicans voted for the impeachment, and indications that many more are not supportive of him (one indicated that a censure would have had support form 100+ of his fellow GOP members).

Very weak case and doomed to fail IMHO. Where is the evidence? He called for peace and non violence on Twitter as far as I have read. Next week or so will be interesting. He's not going quietly.

There is speculation that he will pardon himself before next week.

im not sure the impeachment was a particularly great idea, perhaps more debate should have been focussed on how the Dems also encouraged rioting during the BLM/anti fa riots. Even Pelosi herself encouraged robbing and smashing the place up.

Trump is far from perfect or even remotely suitable as president but given the past two US elections the Democrats have put up two equally or even potentially even more incompetent candidates.
While easy to mock US politics, is the current circus in your own backyard any better.

"Person familar" is usually codeword for a serious and close contact who doesn't want to give up his/her anonymity. Probably an off the record chat with one of the press secretaries or similar.

I can think of a number of reasons - although if I'm honest I see it being more attractive to the Reps than the Dems. I think I read that if he was removed (even after the effect) he would lose some of his privelidges in retirement though, which could be a big saving to the US taxpayer (and would potentially also preclude a Trump 2024 campaign).

That's why I rarely read the actual media, other than to get pointers where I can read the source documents or as a way of watching the streams from the actual houses. It's important to read across the spectrum of sources too, so all media sources available where I can, but often local news is better than national. If I'm honest I lament the loss of Trump twitter too, as the barrage of comments that followed one of his tweets was often a good means of accessing the source documents and feeds.

Deprive him of his 200,000K a year 'pension'.

Deprive him of his 1 million per year travel allowance.

Remove his right to a secret service detail for life.

Make it impossible for him to run in 2024...

Also, it distances the GOP from Trump, which might be useful in 2024.
