Indeed.
As always when you follow a Socialist the cubboard was bare. The Country was in an even worse state then what he knew it would be.
So spent a lot more then planned on Forces, etc.
Then Covid arrived.

President Obama was widely criticised for authorising more drone strikes than any President to date, even Trump, yet you are critical of his military spending?? This graph shows spending by year. President Obama took office in what, 2009? And gave the military more money than at any time in the tenure of President Bush follow by 4 years where funding was roughly the same or greater than in the years under President Bush. How much money do you define as 'enough'???

Interesting graph you found there.

I hope Obama spent that money at home & didn’t send any to Iran.

Let me put you straight on something. It's a common error, too but a simple one.

That money the US government 'gave' back to Iran: it belonged to Iran from the start. Their money, pure and simple. It was seized long long ago because of sanctions. The idea that the US 'gave' them money is thus totally false.

...The nuclear agreement included China, France, Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom, the United States and the European Union, so Obama didn’t carry out any part of it on his own. The deal did lift some sanctions, which lifted a freeze on Iran’s assets that were held largely in foreign, not U.S., banks. And, to be clear, the money that was unfrozen belonged to Iran. It had only been made inaccessible by sanctions aimed at crippling the country’s nuclear program...

As above, the Iran nuclear agreement was put in place by several international players, not just the USA. Including the UK, France, Germany and Russia. If you can find something else these parties will ever agree on let me know what it is.

I never thought I’d see the day the US electorate would reduce the credibility of their political power to such a level, perhaps TrumpS suspiciousness over rigged elections has some merit. Bring on Kanye...

The tech giants hold as much if not more power than the politicians these days. Theoretically and in history the US has quite strong anti monopoly laws but looking at the performance in Washington last week it seems highly unlikely that those powers will be used. Economic power of these corporations now eclipses the political power of the electorate IMO. No wonder there’s a clown in the White House, his antics are just a sideshow. So why not Kanye?

Absolutely agree, same applies here. Not just tech but media “decide“ who, when and where. The interesting thing about Fox and Trump is it’s a perfect fit, Murdoch was massively anti Trump until he realised Trump could win with a “little support” and he (Murdoch) has that power to help and Trump knows without Fox he would not have made the WhiteHouse. The power (these days) is rarely in the hands of the elected or the electorate.

This is the interview in question from HBO. I dislike the interviewer immensely because he interrupts so often.

I had a go at watching that earlier today but I couldn't get past 5 mins. I have better things to do than listen to that utter buffoon show the world what a simpleton he is. Swan is generally being applauded as finally being a journalist who has actually taken the idiot to task. I know what you mean though, Newsnight style constant interuptions can be wearing for the viewer. People being interviewed on tv generally have a few more brain cells than Trump though.
