Drainage contractors in your area

Where are you based? My old boss does a fair bit of ag drainage work, he’s based near Elgin but travels a fair bit I think.

Easter Ross. It is mostly weed that needs to be removed as the ditch has already been re-graded. About 35 miles north of Inverness and a couple of miles from the A9. A 5 tonne machine did it last time.

Your price is well out on any sort of sensible scheme. I have just had 150acres done on a budgeted 8yr payback. This was all every chain and stoned to within 350mm of the surface.

I did 450 acres (the farm is 900 acres) 6 yrs ago at every 2 chain putting stone over all the pipe but only within 350mm in the lows. My WHOLE farm average wheat yield in this period has risen by 1.2t/ha.

It is well worth doing imho

It's great to se people draining big areas but you say you drained every 2 chains, which is 40 meters apart give or take, this adds up to around 120 meters of drain per acre, which would come in somewhere in the region of £585 per acre based off prices round here. In my area the average drain spacing is probably 10 meters, some closer some wider depending on the ground. I'm not saying this as form of criticism, as your yeild has increased so it's obviously working. I know in other parts of the country spacings are wider especially when mole draining can be used. I'm just pointing it out to show other people may have been getting quotes of £1500 per acre due to the increased amount of drains per acre due to closer spacing.

Good point that. Drain spacing here was every 20m, stone to within 300mm of ground level. Small fields too so higher proportion of main drain to lateral.

It appears my post was unclear. The scheme this year was every chain and stoned to within 350mm. Also included was some 6” for yard drainage.

He has a couple of 15 tonners with weed cutting buckets. I could pass you his details if you want?
