Whatever stone you get, make sure it's not some kind of limestone. All the drainage installed in my area since the 60's, with drainage officers from the ministry supervising , and no one ever thought that limestone backfill would simply melt away! Experts?:scratchhead:

Try Humberside Aggregates 01430 421503 we have had backfill from them in the past . Their gravel is not the cheapest and they don't always have it in stock buts its the best quality in the area

20-40mm washed gravel is our usual stone we use, although we do and will use Norwegian granite if we need it for a job.

Can use limestone but it NEEDS to be carboniferous limestone as it is a lot harder and will not erode the same as non carboniferous will.

Cinder's from a sewage works is meant to be brilliant drainage stone and free but rarely available
He should be able to get it from tarmac at Scunthorpe steelworks. The beauty being it's very light so you get a lot for your money. Not sure if it's still the case but it used to be exempt from quarry tax. Am assuming it is available as it was from Redcar and think it still is.
