Looking to find out what the best drinking nipple is for cattle on slats. Having alot of problems with the cattle on slats filling there water bowls with crap and wanting to put nipples in there place who uses them and what size/brand are they??

I'm using some from GE Baker (@JP1 has an affiliation?) Aquaglobes weren't the most reliable, getting on better with button type, German brand name escapes me. Mine are on half inch threads, but that's a weak point. You need to have some spares for the inevitable sat evening flood.

@e3120 thank you for that I take it by button ones you mean the type in the bottom picture (10,11 and 12)? What did you find was the problem with the aquaglobes?

No, the button is on the side, similar to the ball on the Aquaglobes. The issue I had with them was the outer casing coming off, or the whole thing shearing at the threads (brass). Regardless of brand, this is a weak area if they get a dunt, so go 3/4" bsp if you can.

How quickly do the cattle take to using them? Look like a great idea really

I have put some into my slats for calves 6 month plus and a batch of 19 month old in calf hiefers and they work great I was a little nervous to weather they would work out how to use them but within an hour or two some had the hang of it best thing I have done is getting rid of the water bowls water is always clean and there feed intake is up.
No reason I can see that younger calves would not take to them as well as my stores have.

I would say 6 months is maybe a good threshold. We did have some smaller ones that struggled a bit, maybe slats (matted) were too hard on them. Rigged up a drinker to remove 1 challenge. Have other sheds, so younger calves tend to go there, but ventilation isn't as good.

Resurrecting a bit of an old thread - does anyone have other brands? Contacted AquaGlobe direct and they currently have no stock of the 1" for cattle, or 3/4" all stainless. Lack of demand they're not bothering to manufacture. Cheers

Thanks, we've gone for:

Ferrzootecnia

Theirs also Haase I came across.

Just looked at the Optiflow. Lets hope what I've ordered are fine :scratchhead:

The ones you have gone for are aqua globe.

However, the ones I had were brass on the threaded end, so hopefully by making them all stainless they have sorted the tube separation issue.

Have you taken any land out of production from last autumn?
