Drive entrance convex traffic mirrors?

I have erected a cheap convex traffic mirror , so that I can see vehicles approaching a very sharp bend at the end of our drive,as I have to drive across the sharp right angled bend to access our drive. The trouble with the mirror is that when one sees a vehicle in it the vehicle is on top of you so as to speak. I want a mirror that a can see a vehicle "clearly" approaching from a 100yds or so.
Has any one else experienced the same problem, is it because the mirror lense is of poor quality ? Any suggestions welcome, the idea of the mirror is great if only I could see vehicles approaching "clearly/distinctly from a greater distance.
