dying horses

Wife saw some horses yesterday that are very close to death (head down, no condition, leaning on fence). They have no grazing (just mud) in their paddock and no evidence of hay being supplied. There is evidence of them trying to break out.

What approach do I take? Don't want to be a bizzy body but the horses need help (or to be shot!).

First response should be to knock on a few doors until you know who who's land it is and them make sure that they know about it. If nothing happens after that then contact other sources.

I have seen some around our area where there is no grazing and just mud, nowhere for a lie down, although plenty of hay in ringfeeder strewn all over. If that had been cattle in those conditions, i am sure someone would have reported us!!

I know RSPCA aren't many farmers favourite, but I had a similar situation a few years ago, reported it to them anonymously, and it was sorted within days.

World Horse Welfare used t be ILPH are far better in these situations they will be out the same day, They deal with horses day in day out and are experts in their field, litterally.
Had you put your locality on your post I could have directed you to your local investigator.

Find contact here http://www.worldhorsewelfare.org/contact/in-the-uk at weekends there is an answer service but it will be attended too every few hours.
Even if you have rung the RSPCA please also report it to WHW

Thankyou for caring.
