Really, like what?..

When you say plastic football pitches, surely you just mean football.
The whole sports industry is just a luxury, get rid of the lot.
That means anything to do with horses too so there's no need for anyone to grow horse hay, the land can be used for human food production.
Alcohol of course should go too; we don't need to get pi**ed so that's malting barley etc gone.
Nuclear, solar and wind can sort power (although they shouldn't be placed on farmable land) so no need to grow AD plant crops.
Tourism obviously gone.
Anything else? ;)
They will never get rid of football or alchohol, thats how they control the masses.

abstinence is not the solution to nett zero - people want to travel and why shouldn't they do so ? we don't want to go back to living in caves (and even if we did we would still not be nett zero)

We need to develop and focus on solutions not abstinence. Mankind is smart enough to keep progressing, and even if its not then AI will be
youve already ramped up food miles by taking land here out of production, dont go jumping on a plane next unnecessarily

just kidding of course i wont loose any sleep, although in all seriousness id hope the enviro preachers in this country dont own a car or get on a plane without good reason theres nothing worse than hypocrisy, the air has never been cleaner than during lockdown when the planes were grounded

I don't want to ban flying, but it would be good if the council could stop being so hypocritical. Bournemouth-C'church-Poole council made a big hoo-haa the other day about their meat free days and how they had won a national award for their vegan friendly status.
This week, all the news releases are full of the huge expansion in the number of flights from the airport over the next year or so with a new airline commencing umpteen weekly flights and Ryanair serving more destinations. This is seen as a great triumph for the council.
They seem to forget that they are situated in Dorset, a county that relies very much on its grazed pastoral landscape to bring in the visitors, without which Bournemouth would be no more than empty heathland.

Indeed, but they are prioritising air travel over agriculture. Nobody ever points the finger at them, yet council canteens are having meat free days for the environment.
They wouldnt get rid of red diesel as it would cause havock, instead they are slowly getting rid of British Agriculture as a whole, just look at the stats.
You are missing the point.
I don't think there's much point arguing with you, you have this weird, everyone is out to get me, chip on your shoulder that many on the TFF echo chamber develop.
Maybe a few flights would do you good, see what actually happens in the world, you might discover you're pretty well off.

"They" control the masses in the UK by ensuring people have access to food everyday.

Yes ban everything non-essential, make people stay home.
Remind me again how everyone will buy food?

Every industry needs to do its best to be as efficient and non-polluting as possible, including farmers.
That too much to ask?

Everyone bought food successfully long before cars and supermarkets.
Industries need to pollute less, not close down as the knobs want with meat.

The thing is when looking at weeks away with the girlfriend a week in some shite lodge/pod thing with a hot tub looks very expensive now compared to getting on a plane and going to Greece to enjoy the food and sunshine

it’s actually really annoying we don’t do much in this country now. flights and a hotel in krakow Poland is cheaper than a short stay in Manchester in a decent hotel

Are you living in a parallel universe? Every industry is busy buying up carbon credits so that they can pollute with impunity. Who are they buying them off? Farmers!!
I stated up thread if you bothered to read it that the whole carbon trading/credit thing is ridiculous, although it may benefit some farmers/landowners (I think Clive was keen?)

Businesses and councils are being forced to get "greener" by governments and are just taking advantages of the (stupid) schemes that have been made available to them to try and stay in business, in the same way farmers take subs, grants, tax breaks etc.

I'll say (for what feels like the hundredth time) that all industry should be as efficient, sustainable and responsible as possible.
What part of that do you disagree with?

no dont ban anything, people can vote with their feet whether they care about the environment, just ask when they last got on a plane

The huge expansion in the number of flights at Bournemouth will drive an increase in the airport's rateable value, which will of course mean that the council gets to take even more money off the operator by way of business rates (50% rates retention).

The only thing councils like more than engaging in utter hypocrisy is other peoples money.

Just that he lives on the other side of the world.

That the focus is unfairly pointed at us. You've said you disagree with the carbon credits thing, well do you not think that's a massive waste from companies that are no matter what they do burning tens of thousands of tons of kerosene every day. For what? Going to the shops? No, mostly for people going on a jolly.

We have a family friend that runs a paper manufacturing company making blue roll, paper towels, etc, they have no carbon audits or whatever have you, they just work away. Rightly so as well. If the govt cared about the environment truly then they would support home grown/made when really all they're concerned about it out of sight, out of mind.

You're well travelled, good for you. I see no reason why I should footer out to the middle of some random country when all I need is here. Not saying never, but I have no burning desire to. I have many friends that have went/are in Australia and NZ just now and it does look enjoyable, but not going to learn a lot, their climates and mindset when it comes to farming are totally different.
