Effect of Pesticides on Farmer Health

Hi all,

I'm conducting research for an article (for a leading UK media platform) about the impact of pesticide exposure to farmer health. I'm also interested in how pesticides may affect the health of those living in close proximity to farms.

Is anybody experiencing any physical / mental health effects which they attribute to pesticide exposure?

If you had been writing a similar article 25 years ago everyone would have a story to tell but application and handling technology has improved peoples understanding of the dangers involved in using chemicals has also increased greatly add to this the fact that many many chemicals whether proved dangerous or not have been removed from the approved list it shows there’s really no story.

I wish you well in your quest.
There is plenty of evidence out there starting with the wonder-spray DDT, followed by a multitude of other supposed ‘wonder’ chemicals such as glyphosate.
Suffolk rivers are full of cocaine and glyphosate in pretty much equal quantities

Natural soap is edible.
We really should be trying to live without these chems. They are designed to kill. We are fools to ignore that fact.

They are pesticides. Cide is to kill but knowing the affects on both the target and the user is important we know far more today than we did before likewise the affects on the consumers of the food than has had pesticides applied to it. Applied correctly I really see no problems reducing applications is a goal but living without whilst maintaining current production level isn't possible I'd say.

There were lots of farmers affected by OPs (after compulsory sheep dipping & I believe warble fly treatments), but government won't go there as they forced farmer's to use OPs.
Wonder if some of headaches and pains I get now are linked to OPs especially cos was so young when inhaling them , certainly knocked you about when you were a kid when you look back and think 🤯

I suggest the OP should come fully clean regards the publication they are writing for and their aims. We don't need to provide anything that will only likely only be twisted to produce half baked, anti agriculture clickbait to generate advertising revenues. There are 2 sides to all coins, there are consequences of using pesticides and there are consequences of not using pesticides...

That was my point. In years gone by the chemicals used and the application methods used were far more dangerous than today. No one would spray Metasystox or gramoxone with an open cab tractor or dip sheep with an OP . The knowledge regarding Residues and Harvest intervals is far greater today than ever before yet the OP looks to be looking for some sensationalistic story. Modern life is toxic we all know it.
