Funny fence issue. 500m run.

Fault indicated when I tested it at one end near energiser to check it was working.

Walked fence line randomly testing and fault consistent on all three wires. At about 350m fault disappears.

Go back 10m and fault back.

Fence line looks good between both points.

No vegetation.

Fault with the tester??

With that number of KV I don't think you should worry about a 1.6 amp leak.

Mine regularly runs up to about 5 A until I can be bothered to fid out the problem - if it is over 60A then a gate or lower fence is live as well as the hot strand.

On the kind of tester that I use it says not to check 'near the energiser' as the findings are inaccurate.

That wire is a pain for broken filaments and they're too small to see! One here, another one 20m down the line, then another. But some manage to touch other filaments, gives you readings all over the place. I usually ended up just buying new wire, cheap compared to the enormous time it takes to try to find all the little problems.

Well ewes and lambs stayed where they were meant to be last night, even with all he wind and rain so hopefully they are getting a big enough whack of it to stay educated.
