Electric fence solar panel?

We made some up using 40w panels, & fitted a charge controller box underneath (you need that to make it perform more like a battery charger/conditioner). Clip on caravan type battery terminals on the wires going to the battery, with a 3" piece of ball float arm clamped in where the heavy cable should go gives you a quick place to croc clip your fencer terminals onto. They will run a 3 strand 600m sheep fence quite happily. All parts readily available off the internet.

I bought a couple of these. Just finishing their first season. Cheap wires and crocodile clips but if they do next season they will have paid for themselves.
Sorry, but 0.16J output is asking for trouble with sheep.
The purpose made solar powered units still seem expensive for what they are.

I have a 40w panel with built in charge controller with a 4 or 5 J fencer with a leisure battery. Haven't needed to charge the battery all summer, and the battery lasts (total lifetime) so much better than constantly being discharged without the solar.

Tap "12v solar panel" into eBay or Amazon. Dozens available

I tend to use a small 5watt panel and low power fencer for cattle single wire and dont need a controller. But for sheep fencing with a powerful fencer, I move to a 25watt panel and controller setup. Winter time, as Lapwing suggests, more is better, so go for 40-50watt panel with controller as it will keep you going through the short daylight winter days.

Ebay 50w panel mounted on an old Road works A frame that you can tie to a fence etc and a charge controller. Will run a 3j energiser non stop through the summer and about 3 weeks in winter with a good sized battery. Just be careful throwing them in the quad trailer

Got 3 of them .

I have a single strand around dry stone walls to stop jumping up - use a hotline one, works very well all summer - if on 3 strand, goes flat quickly if earthing out.

just trying some battery ones - Gallagher - has an intermediate pulse setting - very useful if trained to the fence, getting about 21 days out of a battery on electric netting - highly recommended

I bought one like this.

Fixed it to a 100 amp deep leisure battery and then a mole energiser.

Twice. Both set ups have run over a Km of wire for cattle (ht) at between 8.8 and 10 kv for several years without trouble and without changing batteries or charging them up in the workshop.

I disconnect the fence but leave the charger connected to the battery all winter when the cattle are indoors.
