Elho Silomatic Bale Wrapper - tensioning the drive chain?

Does anyone know how to adjust the tension on the drive chain that goes from the hydraulic motor to the turntable?

Managed to snap the chain and have a new chain to put on - but its too tight to get it on and adding a half link makes the chain too slack. The old chain is about a quarter link stretched so it looks if i'm going to have to repair the stretched chain to get it back on again.

Ideally i'd like to have slackened it off, fitted a new chain then tensioned it again - but i cant see any way of doing this.

Any help gratefully received.

A worn chain will also have worn the cogs so you really need to replace both. You are certain though you have replaced like for like, some are very similar but will not cross fit

Iirc the hydraulic motor is mounted with 3 bolts in slotted holed, and slides to tension chain. Chains break from bales being too wet and heavy usually, which would surprising this year, unless it's a lot wetter oop north.

Thanks Mickstup - will lift the table up and have another look at the mounts for the motor. Breakage was caused by an idiot on the controls overshooting the wrap then reversing up too quickly. My only excuse is that its new to me and it was on my 22nd bale wrapped ever.

Didnt have this problem with the bags....

Much better quality silage though.

Hi exfarmer - chain is standard 10B-1 - its stamped on the links and i've x-referenced this with the parts catalogue. I reckon cogs are probably 30% worn - looks like a long and expensive job to remove the big one under the table though.

If you wrap the new chain round the old cog, it should show you the extent if the wear. Starting with one end wrap it right round, it should fit nice and snugly, if not you need a new cog. Hopefully the other poster should get you going.

My very limited knowledge of these wrappers comes from helping a neighbour fix his over 20 years ago, so I'm not claiming to be an expert in any way. He's been retired from farming for almost 20 years, so no up to date knowledge either I'm afraid.
