Estimated Learning Values, or modulated estimated grades. Or take what teachers say and try standardise it through a computer program. Leads to a monumental f**k up that pleases nobody except the few over achievers who played the system. Sounds strangely familiar.

I agree, it is a monumental fudge up and I feel sorry for all the kids swept up in it. However, apparently if the ‘teachers’ grades had stood, the pass rate would have been up 12% on the year, which suggests something wasn’t right...

(notice I am ignoring your gibe as I am finding it far too vague to make a connection to anything😇)

In Scotland, we've now gone to the teachers estimated grades across the board, despite early reports that some schools had predicted pass rates of 85% despite being regularly 65% historically.

I really don't know what the answer is or should have been. There will always be some.pupils who thrive in exams and others who.underachieve due to nerves and there is no accurate way to.predict.

So basically the children learnt more at home than they did at school? :ROFLMAO:
My wife had an irate phone call from 1 of the teachers a few weeks back saying that the children should be on every “video call” as 30 minutes of PE In the kitchen was very important to them, the wife’s reply of “they’ve been out with us working/moving sheep for 15 hours while we’ve been shearing so no they won’t be attending PE in front of a computer” didn’t go down well..... fortunately my children are under 7 so no “exams”

On a serious note, it seems what they have done is use the algorithm on numbers. Therefore if you have Spanish A level in your school and there are 5 or less doing it they gave the teacher’s estimate, 5-15 and they took the estimate into account, over 15 and they relied solely on the algorithm. It’s a serious balls up, because that tends to favour small independent schools. What have the education departments been doing since March?

so not really like EBVs where a cohort of 5 or less gets absolutely slammed.

I skipped an awful lot of school, never handed in homework and was generally a complete tw@ when I could be bothered to attend but came out with 5 'o' grades and a couple of highers after sit down exams . 'Posh' schools with disciplined classes traditionally turn out even numpties with a full suite of decent grades. Teachers in 'normal' schools may even face violence when kids think they can take advantage of a fubar'd year. Can you fault them for grade boosting? No system will stand any test this year. We can criticise all we like but who would have this years manner of testing named after them and be sure enough to have their address made public?
