Got me eye on a Cat N car that has had a replacement engine
Is there anyway of telling what mileage is on an engine
Guy reckons 13k but ??

Cheers

I`d ask for the reg from the donar car , do an MOT search and have a look at milages , personally I`d avoid any "bargain" write off cars , I`d also check if you can get insurance and see how much its loaded.

No unless the ECU came with the engine, which is unlikely.
Snap-On Solus scan tool or the like can read of the mileage on certain engine ECU's.
If you cant afford to take the hit, leave it where it is.

Good luck with it ...................

5k less than it should be
Will have a look and make my mind up
Asked for proof of mileage, will wait and see what comes back
Have a good scan tool, just not sure whether it will read cars age and miles or engines

If it were done with a dealer under warranty etc then surely there will be a record of mileage & date..

Engine number can sometimes date it roughly.

Can get the VIN off the reg for another tool of investigation.

As I said ask for the reg of the donor car (breakers have to keep records) , then confirm the details on the gov website site , then check on the MOT history website or main agent if under 3 years, if the car seller cant supply the donor car reg walk away.
No need for code readers etc.

The advert doesn't make sense. It says recorded Cat C for mechanical failure, but Cat C would mean there was structural damage. The only realistic engine failure an insurance company will entertain is water ingestion, but that would be Cat D/N as no structural damage.
