So ive been offered the chance of a few ewes but they are enzo and toxo vaxed and mine are not and as far as i know mine are abortion free. The question i have is. Is there any risk of my own sheep getting abortion from the vaxed ewes are they carriers?

Why should they be carriers? If the flock has recently started vaccinating after having an EAE abortion storm, then there might be carriers (pretty sure you don't get Toxo carriers though:scratchhead:). I have vaccinated for decades but not seen any EAE for nearly as long, just been too afraid to stop until recently. I certainly hope I don't have any carriers, or it will appear in naive sheep in the next few years.

Can you find out any more of the flock's history?

I know pretty much all of the flocks history. I have shepherded them for about 10yrs they have never had abortion in that time but i always remember vaxing them. Im going to asked the vet monday but was just wondering other peoples understanding in the meantime.

I always go on the basis that anyone vaccinating for EAE started for a reason.Trouble is blood test can't tell between a carrier and a vaccinated sheep. Is it possible to vaccinate your way out of EAE by say keeping a closed flock and blanket vaccinating for say 10 years?

I hope so. That's what I've done, but for the last 30 years since we had it arrive with a wandering sheep. We were double dosing with the old Coopers vaccine back then (as a trial with the drug company) and still it rumbled on. When Enzovac was launched, it stopped it dead and I haven't seen (or had one diagnosed anyway) a case since. Any potential carriers will be long dead.

I've only just plucked up the courage to stop jabbing for it though, as I still remember the losses.:(
