Is it the same firm I didn’t know they had other places? Or that they had colour sorters I’ve been sending my spring wheat to a store to clean with colour sorter it’s been costing £25/ton with the haulage there but it’s their problem if it gets rejected
Different companies, not sure of the history but think it’s like CYO east, midlands, south etc ??
They’ve added a third colour sorter to the fleet this year, which tells you all you need to know about how much Ergot is becoming a problem!!

I'm exploring the idea of installing a colour sorter but there's a lot to it. Not least the infrastructure (building) and electric. Value of grain going forward is also a big consideration with farms making good money last year and talking about breaking even next year.

We run a colour sorted here and it has been busy the last year. There is plenty booked to come in going forward but they are expensive creatures to run. We can do on average 20 tonne an hour but the way electric, maintenance and labour is going it sometimes struggles to stack up.

How often are you running it? If it’s too busy it becomes another job… fine if you’ve got the staff to run it though. Would like to take rejected loads but not looking for large amounts of work.
sounds like it will need £20/t to sort before long!

Currently 3 days a week average. New year it will be most days. The issue comes in merchants creating log flumes. Promising fixings out and it not happening. The problem is certainly getting worse with a merchant ringing most days with a rejected load on wheels.

I was told the other day that the ergot allowance in all crops now is being proposed to be basically zero and they are going to tighten it all up. Is this correct?

It’s not a mystery, sample yourself !!
If you have ergot you will want to know where it is in store and send it to the right home or clean it so it will pay massively to take control of your own grain
Could sample my heap all day and produce just 2 out of 10 5kg samples with ergot. Difficult to quantify at what stage it's worth colour sorting. Perhaps just take the risk and their knock at the other end.
