EU on brink of historic decision on pervasive glyphosate weedkiller

Written by Arthur Neslen

Glyphosate is found in 60% of UK bread and environmentalists welcome a ban but industry warn of uproar among farmers if herbicide is phased out

A pivotal EU vote this week could revoke the licence for the most widely used herbicide in human history, with fateful consequences for global agriculture and its regulation.

Glyphosate is a weedkiller so pervasive that its residues were recently found in 45% of Europe’s topsoil – and in the urine of three quarters of Germans tested, at five times the legal limit for drinking water.

And unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can. So you can see why we need to ask for your help. The Guardian’s independent, investigative journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. My grandfather use to talk about the menace of couch- in 1930 he hired a badly infested field rent free for 2 years to be given a chance to clean it.
He spoke of it being his no1 concern back then- just a BG is becoming today.
Glyphosate introduction was a god send to take his mind off it, expect he'd have plenty to say about it's possible withdrawl.

Blatant advertising.... fudge off @The Guardian RSS

i disagree....i welcome the fact that @The Guardian RSS tries to engage with us....my first question would be 'how long can an unelected EU commission block the democratic will of it's parliament?'.....surely an anathema to a 'remain' supporting newspaper?.....second 'how are direct drill farmers going to be able to deliver the environmental benefits without glphosate?'

Hello The Guardian, If the EU ban the use of Glyphosate , are you going to support British Farming in seeking a ban within Europe and the rest of the world for a complete ban on the import of all food and non food products produced by farmers using Glyphosate pesticide ? This ban would include most of the Maize and Soya produced in the world, also a large amount of the meat produced in the world (fed on soya meal and maize !) and bio fuels produced from Maize ! I hope the EU won't be accused of hypocrisy by banning us witihn the EU from using glyphosate but continuing to import food from around the world which is largely
produced with the use of glyphosate.

These RSS feeds are not set up by the owner of the feed (in this instance the Guardian) they are simply a feed linked to the forum news section by @ ChrisF and auto post.

Perhaps one of their contributors like Moonbat could set up their own forum and TFF could then reciprocate with its own RSS feed.

No one. An App.
Various websites - News/Blogs etc have what they call an RSS feed (rich site summary) you subscribe to these feeds - Chris has set them up, there are various ones, not just Gurnaird so they auto post to here. Saves anyone bothering to find stories to discuss.
