Ewe lambed 17 hours ago - now poorly

@wr and @MJT you're spot on with your responses. Yes the ewe and her contents were too valuable to take the chance. If I'd let vet go only to discover a short time later there was an issue and that's why she wasn't getting on with it I'd have been kicking myself. I know what I averaged for lambs last year and with 3 in her I wasn't risking it - different if I hadn't had a vet about the place.

Phoned vet today and told to give her metacam and pen & strep.

Just in from shed. She's still dull eyed, flat eared, grinding teeth a bit and clearly still in some pain but she appears to have stopped pressing and two of her 3 large 1 day old lambs were full.

She's still breathing a bit hard and twitching a bit with pain but she's taking a little water so might just be a case of wait and see now. Would love her to live and rear 2 lambs.

I do @sjh. Iv been giving her some course mix soaked with a drizzle of molasses but she's given it scant attention.
tried some fancy horse mix at christ knows how much from the neighbour wouldn't look at it but would eat ivy and it surprised me they eat the wooden stems as well,i guess you must be north Scotland as you say no hedges,i bet there will be some growing up a stone building wall nearby

Thank you everyone for your quick responses. She's still alive this morning. The vet was already here and just lambed her as I was on my own yesterday - it wasnt a difficult lambing. Really strange iv had a few ewes this year with really hard lambings and all grand and then this one is just a total mystery. The vet is emergencies only today but I will phone and check exactly what she got. Il check her temp. She's grinding her teeth which is never a good sign. Bad enough losing a ewe you expect to lose without losing the ones you don't!

And for the record, I would have to check my death records for an exact date, but I haven't lost a ewe in at least 2 years [emoji4]

2 years! That’s impressive! I was doing well with none this year then I had 7 in 36 hours :/

How is the ewe now? I had 2 ewes come in the other day, a texX for a wet adoption and a BFL yearling - expecting 2, only 1 came out? Fast forward 48hours and they both start pushing again, heaving and heaving next door to each other :/ the 2 of us with smallest hands on the farm had a feel in both ewes and couldn’t feel anything untoward in there :/ both ewes died yesterday - the BFL also lay on her ram lamb :(

Sorry to hear that @ai r, that's a right bad run of luck you've had there. If it makes you feel any better I lost one of my best lambs same way, smothered by the mother, massively frustrating.

The ewe is much the same as late last night i.e. better than yesterday daytime but hasn't progressed much more. Saying all that she has stopped pressing and grinding teeth but is still dull eyed and flat eared.

2 of her lambs were full in middle of night and all day today - however all 3 were empty tonight so go figure that out [emoji52].

She is now drinking a little water and, although refusing hard feeding, is taking tiny bits of hay.

I think if she's the same tomorrow I'm gona kick her out to a shed with a few lambed ewes - hopefully the company and competition will do her good.
