Ewe lambed 17 hours ago - now poorly

Vet lambed bfl triplets 11am yesterday. Not a difficult delivery. Jagged her afterwards with stuff. Not long after she left ewe started parting with strawberry blamonge like stuff (not afterbirth). All seemed fine. Lambs definitely to time.

Couple hours later not looking well. Grinding teeth, squinty eyes, ears back, sitting down. Last night she's pressing a bit every so often. Not eating and drinking. Real sick looking.

Anyone know what's up with her? Is it inflammation? I feel she's lost the will to live and I fear the outcome ain't rosy.

It sounds like she has torn inside and has passed a blood clot,I had a suffolk ewe that did the same after lambing she was pumping blood out,in desperation i soaked a old towel in the water trough and put it in her about 8 hour later she had pushed the towel out and a clot as big as a cricket ball and to my surprise she survived, not saying do this its to late i would think ,Give her some pain relief and cross your fingers

What 'stuff' sis the vet inject her with? Any vet worth their salt would surely have given an anti-inflammatory after a lambing already, if it was complicated enough to justify the vet doing it.:scratchhead: No point in giving her more if that's the case.

Does sound very hopeful anyway.

Thank you everyone for your quick responses. She's still alive this morning. The vet was already here and just lambed her as I was on my own yesterday - it wasnt a difficult lambing. Really strange iv had a few ewes this year with really hard lambings and all grand and then this one is just a total mystery. The vet is emergencies only today but I will phone and check exactly what she got. Il check her temp. She's grinding her teeth which is never a good sign. Bad enough losing a ewe you expect to lose without losing the ones you don't!

And for the record, I would have to check my death records for an exact date, but I haven't lost a ewe in at least 2 years [emoji4]

I don’t use metacam only flunixin but don’t think any anti-inflammatory last very long.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding; did vet assist with lambing? I don't understand why someone would interfere with a ewe that was lambing happily by herself??

With the money that's involved with the BFL's you are on edge and watching them all the time like my son is with his. I know all about it @sjewart I feel your pain :woot:

Incidentally, when we had BF rams to cross with welsh ewes, everybody took the mick and told us we'd need a good spade or a JCB. Honestly, we never lost a BF ram. They all went to market at good ages.

Keep her on the pain relief and if she is not eating tempt her with some ivy freshly pulled out the hedge row ,give her the stalks and leaves as well and judge the outcome from her willingness to eat it
