Ex Shipping Container as feed store ?

I went to a farm last week to pickup some lambs and he has a very smart looking 20ft container that he blows food into. He said he bought it two years ago, it is used once one, so made in China filled up put on a boat to over here and then sold, said it cost him £2300 delivered on a hiab and put where he wanted.

I used to work for a shipping company a few years back,shipped a lot of feed to the northern isles in 20 foot shipping containers blown in by pipe,works well.

Anyone use ex shipping containers as a feed store for blown in proven, just thinking it may be better for us than a upright bin as be less intrusive and easier to move if we need too.

Not quite what you're asking, but we use a shipping container for storing bagged feed on a pallet (handler plops it right in). Works a treat...

If buying a 20 foot shipping container try and buy the ones that have the 4 forklift holes instead of only 2 much easier to move by forklift/tractor etc.

How much would a 20' container hold? I reckon our telehandler would just about drive into it.

Think of it as a 20' bulker with 8' sides.

4" soil pipe will do the job as long as you don't have too many bends.

soil pipes and bends are not up to it, they are the work of the devil,
ask your feed rep, he should sort it to get you what you need

The shipping company I worked for just made a tight fitting hole at the top of one of the doors and made a light alloy pipe that fitted into the feed firms blower pipe and into the container hole with 2 clips on it to save it coming out,very simple.

When I get one rigged up I will put a sign on it telling the dids its just got sheep food in it. Don't want them worrying about cutting the back off to get inside

Heard of a very near miss with a delivery driver in the south west when filling a container. Farmer had welded a pipe on the side to blow into, the container pressurised as the doors are virtually air tight, and blew the doors off which hit the driver causing life threatening injuries.
If feed suppliers deem your storage unsafe for their drivers they won't deliver, simple as!

I got refused cos I'd extended the legs on a bin and the driver deemed it unsafe.
