Exciting opportunity for a farming adventure

As some here may know I moved my family to France 4 years and 18 days ago. We settled on central France and rented a lovely 143ha beef farm with a bit of arable, modern and traditional buildings and a recently renovated traditional house. It was a calculated risk that has paid off. In fact we love it here so much that with some family help we are in the process of buying our own farm. This means that I have just given a years notice to my landlord ( fluent English speaking professional landlord) so our lovely farm will now be available. If anyone is looking for an adventure close to home in a land that TRULY VALUES ITS FARMERS (and still pays a very healthy subsidy to make sure that we are productive, profitable and able to feed our population) then send me a pm and I can tell you all about what is on offer.

Its normally in multiples of 9 years subject to negotiation so 9,18,27 years etc or till retirement age.

Funnily enough my Dad wanted move us to France about 40 years ago and i didn’t want to go because it was foreign. I was there last week first time ever and now i’m back in England it really makes the UK look very sad.

What length of leases do you tend to get in France?

Normally 9 years or permutations of 9. Having said that we are on a Bail Carrière so it is a working life time lease. Very very secure here as a tenant.

Not for everybody and that’s fair enough. It’s the first time that I’ve been able to be financially secure and make decent money from farming.

I try very hard not to go back to the UK for this reason.

Me too. Daughter went back to see her mother for a couple of weeks at the end of august. I went and collected her, left here at 9.30 Tuesday and home by 5pm Wednesday. In England for 14 hours I think and most of that was night time. It’s certainly not what it was and I only left 4 years ago.

Between Gouzon and Guéret in La Creuse. 115ha grass and arable again.

It depresses me in that they are building houses everywhere but worse than that is everyone is so fat.

I wouldn’t argue with that. The young looked vibrant whilst here in the UK the kids look like they’ve had the stuffing knocked out of them.
