why do people on here complain that they can not get experienced and reliable staff.
I am a 56 year old ex farmer and ag contractor ( sold up due to divorce )with class 1 hgv
applied for various jobs (foreman/tractor driver ) and willing to relocate ,and not even had an interview ,do employers only want young tractor drivers.

I am told there are wagons in Penrith stood still for lack of drivers, why would you i terview a wagon driver, they can do it or they can't.

Possibly a combination of the age, and experience - most farmers don't act like real businesspeople.
Most managers or employees jump at the opportunity to employ someone more stable, with assets, knowledge amd experience - but many farmers are scared half to death by the thought a mere employee may know a different or better way.
So by logic this then extends to some degree to contractors, because of the "command and control" world we live in now, where they want to teach you and train you their own way?

Also, spelling, what's on your social media (as most potential employers will check out your faceache etc) we found quite a few who "loved cows and farming life" at the interview were "hating this effing farm, the boss, the other muppets" on their FB page... and all sorts of other interests came to light as well :eek:

Personally, I'd assume age will be one of the main hurdles, and the other things may or may not be secondary to that. :(

:( sad if that's the case, not even an interview is pretty poor.
