Situation Vacant Experienced Calf Rearer/farm worker

Autumn block calving dairy herd near Shrewsbury, Shropshire is looking for a 'full time' calf rearer/farm worker from mid August through to Jan 18.
Calving 231 cows/heifers on outdoor paddock / maternity unit.
We pride ourselves on having high standards of care and welfare and we would expect the rearer to closely follow our calving protocols. Rearer responsible for all calf feeding, administering of medicines and recording of same, tagging and recording and dehorning. We operate a Johnes and a Neospora action plan which requires separation of some calves so the rearer needs to be well organised. Replacements are reared in individual pens then in batches of 14 in igloos with verandas.

The rearer must be competent with vehicles tractors and telehandlers as they will be responsible for collecting milk from parlour in a milk taxi, collecting calves in a trailer, bringing straw etc to the calf unit from storage. Feeding is by a milk taxi/pasteuriser with delivery hose - no buckets to carry :)

Between calf rearing duties, the rearer will assist with cow routines and ideally, preparation of tmr feeds and feeding out of same using telehandler (manitou) and sheargrab/bucket and Fendt tractor/ RMH mixer/feeder.
you would be expected to assist with maintaining high levels of care/accuracy in clamp management/ feeding/feed records.

Accomodation is available.

In the first instance contact Colin, farm manager on [email protected]

Thanks
