Why do they put vegan stuff into my newsfeed. Today’s one

I consistently report anything vegan related as either harassment/fake news/offensive but yet it keeps coming. Does the rest of the population get this too?

But if I stick an advert for a bull on there I get in trouble from them.

It’s not a large chunk - it’s a very small chunk and probably less that many private individuals have. You only need a few to be allowed to ask questions at annual meetings, so that’s all they buy - in lots of companies. Certainly not a controlling interest/ board level involvement.

The newsfeed gets its ideas from your Facebook search and browser general history, so watch what you are surfing for at other times. Maybe do the vegan stuff in Incognito mode?

We’ve sold more meat and sheepskin rugs on FB than any other way in the last few months. I hadn’t realised PETA had shares in them, but looking at the amount of money they’d have to invest to have any real influence, I think we just need to be aware rather than concerned.

That’s the thing though. I know full well there’s a link between google an Facebook as this week I searched for hotels for a weekend break in Nov and low and behold the next day I start seeing adverts for the 3 places I looked at on Facebook.

But under no circumstances have I ever searched for vegan stuff anywhere.... well other than who owns quorn/what’s it made from. That’s not recent either. I search for random machinery all the time but that never comes up by chance [emoji849]

They’re smart though - they will be doing some cross referencing to other sites, or similar words - perhaps even to meat searchers.

Or perhaps the Mrs has a secret she’s not told you... ?

Whenever we put a photo on of some lambs, with text saying they are destined for the local pub, facebook put a message up for us saying 'this is one of your most engaging posts, boost it by paying £25'.

To test this I put two photos up of 4 lambs before and after their trip to the abattoir, we still got a message saying it was one of our most engaging posts. I can only conclude they have some techy way of picking out photos of fluffy lambs, without anyone actually reading the words ?

It’s all done with algorithms, in the same way that my phone sorts photos into albums without any human intervention. I do wonder about the increase in this kind of technology. If ever there was a “IT Rebellion”, I wonder just how much traction it would get?
