Facebook -- verify ID

I have received a notification from Facebook that seems genuine enough. I got a similar one some time ago and sent in copies of Driving Licence, etc. then. But why? I got a letter from the DVLA about renewing my driving licence not long ago that specifically says Driving Licejnces should not be photographed. I cannot think of one reason why I should trust FB! Oh, BTW, Facebook thinks I am too young to use it....at 81!

That did occur to me, So I have attempted to find the FB page by using the direct link https://www.facebook.com and the exact same page comes up. I am inclined to think it is genuine as it's the sort of stupid thing they do. Also got one at the same time from Paypal billing me £10 for adverts on FB which is correct (?) as I have recently spent that on advertising.

Both FB and PayPal require authentication via mobile phone which I won't do. Yes, I do have a mobile but I don't give out the number except to family and emergency contacts and certainly not to morons like FB and PP!

Can't access Facebook which I am beginning to think is no small loss. Lots of grumbling on the Internet about this verification process. They are asking for soe VERY personal information, amongst them a photo of a driving licence which DVLA should never be taken! So I sent them a photo of my bus pass (since they say I am too young) which has photo ID. But that is not acceptable. So I think I can do without....

A search on Google came up with this:

Well, I can't get through to them at all. Whatever I click takes me to another request for ID.

I did think to create another account but I continually get the nagger (as above) to authenticate my account which appears genuine but is so badly written and designed as to not work -- except enough to make it look real!

Very frustrating.

Email and page, both.

Page keeps asking tor ID authentication but asks for photo of driving licence (for example) with photo ID which DVLA says should never be given.

I suspects it's genuine but the idiots at FB are just making it easier for the scamers. Unfortunately, I've sold a few Highland ponies for good money through FB as it's handy for photos and videos. The trouble is, people like FB get too big, then get out of touch, and finally don't need to bother.

Everything is robots more and more. I had to jump through hoops to get through to a human being at TSB to cancel all payments to PayPal. Fixed them at any rate!

You can always look at where the email came from and where it's being returned to, to see if it's really from FB.

The funny part is, when I go onto Facebook's Help page, and it then asks for a comment, and I click something negative, Facebook goes into beach ball of death mode (i.e. it hangs. it's a Mac!)! I have to shut down and restart to log on again. It seems FB doesn't like negative comments!!!

It seems facebook do genuinely have a photo ID verification system that kicks in when it detects activity on a profile that it considers "may not be authentic" Have you been churning out antivax conspiracies, pro trump and flat earth materials like a Russian troll farm? Facebook say the image is encrypted and deleted after 30 days but not sure I trust them on that but probably no other option to get back in unless you create a new account....

Well, I gave in and tried to upload a photo of my driving licence with photo ID.

It wouldn't accept the upload because (it says) the file size is too small! Well, driving licences come in one size and I don't know how to make them bigger!

Off to do more searching and apparently this is a common problem that hasn't been resolved in over a year.

So, on with the search. I came across more and more posts about the evil and intrusive nature of Facebook, so I have decided not to bother trying to log in again. Definitely not secure and why I should trust them with personal information when they clearly can't manage what they have is beyond me.
