not rt but rspca......proof,i think, that assurance doesn't work.....this farm suspended.....'the independent' carrying story....'the ecologist' stating 2 other farms affected also

I don't suppose anything's perfect. Could have hens in coops of 5 and they could still string themselves up in the wire, but leave them outside to their own devices and fox will get them.

However, supermarkets demand cheap food, and it shouldn't be so cheap that it affects welfare. If supermarkets and the industry can't show responsibility for animal welfare then government should intervene otherwise it's us farmers who get bad publicity.

Milk processors, chicken processors, egg buyers and supermarkets want to be told to run a marathon every day and don't stop. Only stop when you're prepared to pay sufficient money to make sure animal welfare is absolutely totally as good as it can be.

And don't blame the farmers. If we don't produce to the cost supermarkets expect, then we're out of business.
