I watched the report last night and wasn’t particularly impressed if I’m honest. The message wasn’t at all clear about what they were actually there for. The folks interviewed all predicted the imminent demise of farming but didnt elaborate on why they thought that other than a rather vague sort of “it’s the government’s fault innit?” Sentiment.

Dunno, it was a 3 minute report so was likely highly edited, but if we want these protests to really cut through, we need to find a much much clearer and more succinct message to push or policy to decry.

perhaps l am missing something, but as l see it, we can only protest for low prices.

the 'green movement', is right across Europe, politicians believe these policies will 'save the world' or there's lots of votes in them.

so, guv's across the 'west', have decided to implement 'greening' measures. There's bugger all we can do about it, in the UK, our political clout is close to zero, we have to live with it.

but what are the effects of this policy, on farming ? To start with, farmers do not have a duty, to feed the nation, that's the guvs responsibility, if they feck it up, their problem, not ours. Nor do we have to help them sort it out.

there seems to be this fear, that food production, in the UK, is going to radically drop. From the farmers point of view, what is wrong with that ? We seem obsessed with max production, that only does two things, first, satisfy our own ego's, second, keeping food cheap.

most will have heard the phrase, vanity, not insanity, so that covers the first point. The second point, cheap food is breaking us, but why is it cheap ? Because there is a surplus, reduce that surplus to deficit ................ prices go up, simple.

so we are faced with an idiotic, ill thought out policy, that satisfies a relatively small % of the population, and it is a stupid policy.

ELMS, SFI etc, have some pretty good remuneration, for some aspects, for us, a small dairy farm, its easy to surpass the SFP, several times over. This means for us, we can draw some welcome money, we can reduce our workload, and we can 'rest' some of our least productive land, and get well paid for it.

but the biggest plus, is reduced production, across the 'west'. Less production has a very positive effect on prices.

accepting its a stupid policy, it relies on importing cheap food, that might not be so easy, as politicians think. There will be increased demand, and competition for it, to replace lost product, at a time when the world is increasingly unstable.

we can see now, every day, the massively increased prices, for lamb and beef, and the reason is very obvious, they are short, supply doesn't meet demand.

where does that leave farmers ? Basically they are paying us, to reduce production, reduced production leads to higher prices. And some are complaining ? Why ? It's all positive for farmers.

l am not in favour of taking hugely expensive, and smart looking kit, on protests, it alienates the gen public, if we can afford that, we cannot be badly off. Now, accept that's not really correct, but it's what the public see/believe.

so, all in all, this stupid policy of guvs, is really quite positive for us.

started off by saying, all we really can complain about is low prices, well that issue may well be sorted out.

When someone tells me what the 3 main points that we are protesting about in order of priority then I might join in?

I am very confused at present as what is the main issue?

Luckily the Politicians are reducing production across large areas of the world, which will have an effect on supply and demand and no protest will make any difference.
On of them was on the radio recently. Stricter control of food labelling was one.

I cant get over how quite the welsh farming programs have been over the protests, farmio etc. Have they been silenced?
No point at the moment.Whole point was to show the bad feelings against the new SFS and other policies like TB before the consultation period ended. Nothing is going to happen until there is a response to the consultation and meetings with farming reps and now there's a new minister anyway. If there's no favourable outcomes, time to fill up the tank and head off to Cardiff I expect .

I note that one of the organising bodies was Fairness for Farmers of Kent

No idea why they are special. Any Kent’s want to explain themselves?
