I’ll say it again we have we have it here it just does not have the red die in it and we have to claim back the rebate where in the UK they don’t the Rebate it’s taken off before when the farmer buys it and they put the red die in there so if someone is using it in a vehicle on the public road and they shouldn’t be the fuel could be tested To see if it’s rebate fuel or not
Do you know what punctuation is for ?

is English your first language or a second / third one ?

yes, I do understand how “red” diesel words as I lived & worked on farms there for 3 years in my misspent youth.

I still don’t really understand your point though ?

our system is completely different to the UK & the difference in price here is nowhere as great as “red” & “white” is there.

your point is ?

Ours is $1.92 a litre there’s no red diesel either and we can’t claim anything back. Petrol is more expensive though $2.10 a litre. And we get through about 14000 litres every month.

traditionally, diesel was always cheaper than petrol by a reasonable margin. Last few years ( how many 🤷‍♂️ ) it has caught up & is now substantially dearer than premium petrol.
around $1500 to fuel up my tractor, nearly $200 to fill the Hilux

thankfully I personally use very little diesel / ha on my farm. Harvest is the biggest fuel useage through the year
So do we but we are planting and harvesting 12 months of the year. The vast majority of our crops are striptilled in and even Potatoes will just get two cultivation passes. So if we were ploughing I reckon we’d be up to 20,000 litres a month. Every month we check the consumption of every vehicle one because theft is a big issue but the other to see how we can reduce it. This month on 500 hectares of irrigation I’ve paid $30,000 in electricity luckily we had 45 mm of rain last night.

Actually @Farmer Roy i hadn't accounted for taking tax off which VAT registered businesses can do. This is a more accurate representation.

Price has dropped last few days so that really is a good price.

My point is you have red diesel/ Rebate fuel in Australia which you said you don’t.

Any quote you see for red on here is usually before VAT which is 5% on red and reclaimable if you are VAT registered. Generally farmers are Vat registered.
Most prices quoted for white are garage forecourt prices and include VAT which is 20% on white and reclaimable if registered.
Price of red before VAT is about £1 at the moment and will be bought in bulk. Price of white on the forecourt is more like £1.85 around me or even higher which is more like £1.54 before VAT.
People do buy white in bulk but very often it is bought at the pump for convenience and reduced risk of farmyard theft.

🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

I clearly explained how our rebate system worked for businesses who conduct eligible “off road” activities. Which we pay full price for then claim a portion of tax back.

I said we don’t have “red” diesel ( which has a substantially lower purchase price than the general population pay ), which we don’t. 🤦‍♂️

I no how the rebate system works here.
I haven’t commented on who has the higher/lower purchase price I just said red Diesel and rebate diesel are the same as in being cheeper fuel for farmers.
Which Country has the best, easiest or wright way of going about it I don’t no both have good and bad points

Went to other side of Henty field day site to pick up some fuel tanks today. Billabong ck is right back down at Walbunderie now. You could see in the trees it has been a raging torrent 4 to 5 m up. Walbunderie to Rand is still closed. As is the entirety of the Federation way from Corowa. Made my way back via Brockelsby and Hopefield. Geez there's some water out there to the north of the Rand turn off. All that flat land out there will be totalled crop wise....
Mmm. Talking to Nathan. State waters dumping 30k megs down the Billabong atm.

This is also depressing

might have to start driving my 4.7 V8 petrol 100 Series “party car” as my daily drive & leave the diesel Hilux parked up, to save money

Sure is, glad I haven't bought fuel in a while. Diesel is $2.549 at the pump, far cry from the 90c/l diesel when we moved here.

Petrol here is just higher than diesel, but of course we have RUC on top [for diesels on the road] so that swings it the other way

Currently looking at taking on managing a farm 163km from home and wondering how (or who) is paying for the running back and forth
