Farms and estates are being urged to get solar photovoltaic (PV) arrays independently assessed as a huge proportion are under-performing financially and could easily be improved.

According to independent power and energy consultancy Roadnight Taylor, there are many reasons why arrays might not be performing as well as they could, from physical faults to incorrect metering or tariff agreements.

I remember going to a site many years ago but it’s always stuck with me.

I got a phone call from a spud farmer

Farmer: oi pablo, can you come ‘round ‘ere and look at this?

pablo: Oreet Will, sure, ill see ya tomorrow.

Scene 2
A light warm wind whips up dried dirt from the yard, light is slowly dipping on the horizon.

Knock, knock

pablo: Oreet Will, what’s up?

Farmer: your going to laugh your little nut sack off, take a peek at this...

Hands over a tatty A4 spreadsheet, coffee stain clearly seen on the underside.

pablo: are you for real?

Farmer: yeah, this bloke reckons I’ll get a million after 25 years for 50kW solar...

We both roll around on the floor laughing like two kids on a sleep over.

pablo: he wants how much?! Jesus wept!

Farmer: Yeah, £140,000, told him to pass off

pablo: look mate, you only need 30kW, you’ll get 50% deemed export, that’ll do ya’

Farmer: Oreet, how much?

pablo: 30k, I’ll do the analysis

Farmer: sounds good, crack on.

pablo sets off as darkness shrouds the land.

My point is, people were over sold and now others are realising that they are not getting the returns predicted by the scallywags that invaded the market. They’ve gone now and unfortunately, left some regretting making the investment choice.

It pays to have regular service to upkeep your investment annually.
