Hello all,
I am currently working on research piece where we are building a prototype app that is supported by the Lorawan network.
I am not sure how familiar people are with LoRa, but I like to think of it as sort of the wi-fi for long distances (with limitations on bandwidth). It allows the connection of multiple sensors in the farm, such as moisture, asset tracking, temperature, etc.
The project is about getting all of that (hopefully) useful data into an easy and practical format that can actually help the farmer on day to day activities around the farm such as checking grains storage temp and humidity, tractor, quad bikes location, etc.
For us the bottom line of the project is not really about the tech. Tech is just an enabler. At the core of it is understanding whether the product would deliver real value to the farmer, either through time efficiencies, such as reduced time spent checking the levels of diesel int he tank or climbing over a mountain of grain to check temp with a probe, to potentially reduction in costs, for example through more efficient irrigation, or even through reduced rural crime by monitoring gates and tracking assets.
And that is why I am posting here. I would love to have a chat with farmers, though not about tech. We would like to talk about some of the real problems you encounter in the farm on a daily basis. It is a learning exercise for us around the jobs in the farm that that take you away from doing whats really important. And then we would look to see whether tech would help there. We are passionate about solving problems, not shoehorning solutions for the sake of tech.
Appreciate how busy the community is but if you are interested please reach out.
Thank you
