spraying cover crops off ,I have been very surprised as to how many small birds,woodcock,snipe finches and others that are in the mustard, it's the first year using cover crops and I've not seen this amount of birds in the fields before also the hare population seems to of increase now this can't be bad all these benefits and we are just trying to improve the soil. image.jpgimage.jpg

Don't post you got hares.
You will have dog lands 4x4's all over your farm after them.

Sage advice. I made that mistake once. Had to set land mines out to blow the buggers up. Lost an agronomist last year, friendly fire, or 'collateral damage' as we like to call it...
Back to OP, yes, lots of birds. Much more activity in the soil as the foodweb builds. Birds are the top predator in this web and thus lots of birds are a good sign. Far more effective way of building bird numbers than any amount of environmental schemes. Try telling that to the vested interests in the ELS bandwagon.

The only birds that I think are not happy with me apart from gulls would be pied wagtails. They always seemed to follow the destoner.
