Fastrac reverse gear selector problems

Hi I have been working on my mates 1135 fastrac, the air assisted selector rams are playing up. Not selecting reverse gear. I have two main questions does any one know which gear ranges are on which selector(top & bottom ram). The rams were recently serviced new seals etc and the fitter said the top ram was fwd, high & mid ranges. The bottom selector Low and reverse?? this doesn't make sense to me, does anyone know.
Also is there any reason that these rams could be done away with and two gear sticks be put in there place?
Hope some one can help with this problem. Cheers all Steve

Imagine a H pattern gear select.
1 - high
2 - medium
3 - low
4 - reverse
You can only be in one at once.

The micro switches sense that you in range you have requested.

Make sure the sensors on the rams are setup properly. A multimeter will help. 4 sensors on each ram. Each sensor detects the position of the ram when full in or out on each side. The sensors can fail, we had a new sensor setup on ours, you have to buy all 4 in one loom from JCB.

Yes reverse is its own range.

1 - high (forward)
2 - medium (forward)
3 - low (forward)
4 - reverse (backwards)

In reverse it does not make any difference where the twist part of the column lever is.
Reverse is just reverse.

Take the reverse/low ram off the machine. Put a multimeter on the wires and you will soon figure out if one has failed or simply needs moving. From memory the sensors are jubilee clipped on so are easy to move.

Remove the actuator from the tractor for a start. The sensors detect the position of the end of the rod in the cylinder so if you use a multimeter in circuit test mode on each sensor it will light up if the sensor is in the correct position. So when the rod is fully out move the sensor until you get a reading then tighten, do the same when the rod is fully in on the other sensor. Then repeat for the other side. 4 sensors in total. Call me on 07966163639 if that makes no sense!!

Hi.
I have a problem with my 2135 not always selecting Reverse and low I’m going have look again today.
Would I be right in thinking the problem would be the high and medium ram not reading there back in neutral (sensor fault) so conveniency not allowing the reverse/low ram to work? Feed back on this would be very helpful.

Don't know the answer but clean the connectors pins in the plug as this is another area to cause problems with the air rams.
