Fat hen in wholecrop SB

So when would you have sprayed that ley? I'm struggling to think of a suitable day between emergence and that photo...

That is unfortunate. If you couldnt spray then there is no discussion to be had. But there is a reason it says spray from the 2 leaf stage and beyond with many of these products.

I am mystified why people are happy to spend 50 quid on grass seed and perhaps 100 pounds on other things when establishing grass yet 10 quid to sniff weeds out is considered a waste of time.

Not my ley, I just grazed it with tack sheep for the landowner.

This is similarly done in this part of the world, typically new leys will be grazed gently over winter with sheep when they produce excessive winter growth rather than going dormant.

On some dairy farms I reckon they could almost keep a modest flock of sheep all year round where they have a lot of improved leys.

The problem comes in finding a man who moves the sheep to the next field fast enough in a damp time.

I typically move stock every 4 days, but speed up in the wet.
