we have a small 2 bay lean-too style slatted shed at home, considering adding another 2-3 bays by mirroring the shed onto itself and extending.
feed passage on existing is 11ft wide, and was grand 20 years ago when feeding bales that could be handled with the 35!, roll on to present and we now feed with MF398 and loader and everything is a squeeze, want to get it right this time, my father thinks 22ft will be too wide?, and reakons adding 4-5ft to what is there, i reakon as we feed round bales with front loader the more space the better. To add 4-5ft will be creating work, as there is no way i am going to be able to look at a shed with the ridge off centre for the next 30-40 years!, so existing would have to be cut back and everything left symetrical!, (will be visible from my house and just know it would bug me) as opposed to just mirroring and taking down a wall. can a feed passage be too wide?, are there any drawbacks?

if feeding bales with loader 9ft is ideal, but as you say copying exactly whats there makes sence, will be wide enough at 22ft to park tractor in the middle, its just more space to concreate n roof

The extra strip of concrete costs very little compared with the hassle of not having enough room; broken mudguards, mirrors, perhaps hurt animals.

If you have room go 25 feet then, in the future you might not need such an expert to drive the loader tractor or telescopic (that you will have by then)

Allow enough space to drive down the passage when there is a full feed in front of the feed fence.
If not it is a pain to give a different feeding regime to the different pens at the end of the passage as they get blocked by the ones at the front.

I am guessing a freshly opened round bale takes up near 6ft. Allow 7-8ft for tractor. So that comes to 20ft.
I'd added one to two ft more if I could.

To avoid the argument , why not just leave the space uncovered for now and build ur shed, u can always cover between afterwards. If others are slow to move find way around and avoid the argument. It only stagnates things and no progress is ever made.
