Feed rate in at higher prices?

So despite the overwhelming opinion to be to continue at low feed rates I think I'm going to turn the feeders up next week.

I'm not going to suddenly start neglecting grassland management but every extra litre is 45ppl from a 25p kg of cake. If I get just 1:1 and feed 2 extra kilos I'll be £200/day better off for zero effort.

If there's not a reasonable response in a fortnight I'll turn it back down again.
I just like the 45ppl bit [emoji7]

i have a question for you all. If increasing Cake is so expensive and you say it depresses intakes of forage, why dont you buffer feed with brewers grains added into the mix which are known to boost intakes and i believe they are around £45/tn = approx £180 per ton of DM against all your compounds which will be all near or above £300 per ton of DM.

you can replace 1kg of cake with 3.5 kg of brewers and everyone knows you'll get your money back in milk from them.

Same situation

already turned it up a week ago to see what response we would have think we will be turning the feeders back down

I have heard of better response from feeding brewers grain this time of year

As an aside but still relative
Been out measuring today, does anyone else change settings on plonker to allow for high dm grass,, had some interesting readings that my eyes don't agree with

Threw mine out in mid April I think, grass DM has been so high this year, I just do it by eye recently

But what do you do if grass quality is negligible and there is moisture deficit looming? Put in more cake and push out round length so poor quality grass gets even more stem? Feel like we’re stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Why should pasture quality be negligible when you’ve had first cut of and quality aftermaths are available and rain coming in again

Funny year this cold spring ,then wet may but I’ve come out of it with a clamp and a half more silage than last year and a lot of acres ready for second cut
Some one said there grass was going to head because it was getting dry, really , it’s going to head cause that’s what grass does at this time of year
