Baled red clover with Italian ryegrass has been analysed at 19% protein. We are looking to feed to lleyns when they are housed for lambing in February to hopefully replace concentrate. Scanned at 195%. Only a handful of singles and trips. Thinking hay and a small amount of red clover for the singles, adlib red clover for twins and trips with hay if they want it. Never fed it before, has anyone got experience? Is there any need to feed any ewe nuts on top of the clover for the twins or trips or will it be sufficient?
Ewes are all in very good condition and on grass only (plenty of it). Thinking will probably put a bale out in field before they come in so that rumen adjusts to the red clover before housing.
