feeding wholecrop bale sileage to small number of steers

Got peas and barley about 650kg each but only 6 steers to finish. How do you overcome wasteage in feeding this seeing the cost of each bale. Dont have a chopper or bale slicer. Even so once open to the atmosphere I understand it spoils anyway. Is there any answer to this? Anyone know the kg of wholecrop a 17 - 20m medium steer eats per day? Even considered buying in some steers but struggling with finding this age and has to be organic & high health status. At a loss really on overcoming this.

Imo it wont spoil, put in a hay ring and let em at it. Are they in a paddock or locked up??

They should chomp through one in two days or so should they not?, at one stage last winter we only had 12 stock and they wer very close to eating a bale a day and that was along wit 3-4kg meal

I think 6 heavy steers would have a bale eaten before it spoiled.

especially if they are not getting high concentrate levels in their diets which presumably they are not since your organic?

It’s good feed they will do well on it

they'll eat about 10% of their bodyweight per day roughly.....so for example a 300kg steer will eat 30kg/day....x 4 is 120 kg....so a bale should last 5-6 days

steers are close to 500kg so that would equate to about 3 days then. Not sure where he got 5 days from and panicking. Ummm
