Hello everyone,
Looking at buying a second hand 828 for buckraking, mowing and baling. Only thing putting us off is the rumour of engine failure. What actually happens to the engine? What part fails? Is there a fix for this or something to prevent the failure?
Do people find them a problem or are they just made out to be worse than they are?
Thanks
Mark

Do you know what actually went wrong with it? i think they must just replace the entire engine and everything there to get to 25k. I'd like to find out what actually goes wrong on them as I'm sure you could take the poor parts off and get forged engine parts to take the extra power.

As I understand, 900 S4's had an issue with a change to cylinder bore honing / hatching and oil control rings which resulted in high oil consumption. There have also been reports of partial CR injector blocking which, resulting inconsistent fuel delivery and localised hotspots and piston crown damage / holing. Neither of which I understand are exactly widespread issues.

There is a secondhand certified/extended warranty program available if purchasing from an AGCO dealer, up to 8 years and 6000 hours I think though the tractor must be a max of 6 years of age 4000 hours to be eligible. Fendt warranty is generally very good.

So if you was to buy one it might be worth taking the injectors out and having them reconditioned. Sounds like it's down to abit more in depth maintenance to prevent these faults. I know of one with around 1000 hours that had a new engine in but I don't know what went wrong and that's not far from us but don't talk to the bloke who had it.
