Fendt 828 reliability

It is yes, and I'm not suggesting we should all run scrap

The tail shouldn't wag the dog though, if the boss isn't making money the job won't last long.

We're only small beans compared to the cool kids, but I'd rather pay the drivers a few more quid than a dealer or manufacturer. Decent well looked after stuff that gets what it needs is ok I think. Some folk expect new everything all the time. Not possible everywhere.

If you still have staff, you're doing something right.

To be honest, I take up harvest or occasional tractor work when it is available. If it involved driving a lot of old stuff I would leave it alone and stick to going to hospital instead. I'm too old to be sticking 14 or 15 hours in a cab with a sore neck and back each night.

MF6490 was 48k in 2008
8s225 was 148k in 2021 - they're more now

So fair enough, maybe its a bit shy of triple, but more than double.

Yes theres more toys

Still does the same jobs as the old one

Can’t compare hp but 822 Fendt ordered in nov 2011 was $213500 before tax.

Nov 2022 order 939 with a hell of a lot more toys $522,900.

%40 increase in price per hp but as said the option list on new one far more than the 822 I had.

There is no question that more modern kit is easier to operate- everything is right on the arm rest, no reaching around or over, seats adjust each which way, suspension takes out the rough stuff, it's just easier on your body. It's no surprise to me that modern kit is so popular. I think drivers prefer it as it's just easier to work with all day.

EDIT: made a typo in the earlier post. FFS.

Only happens when you manually lock the diff from within the settings menu on screen. Actually puts the 4wd light on the dash.
[/QUOTE]
When in auto the 4wd ratio changes to suit speed and wheel slip. It's more like an awd car when on the road then increases lead via a motor in the transmission when needed

I know how it works. What’s being described is not in auto mode

Sounds awfully complicated and expensive to mend

As I understand it, all happens in the vario cassette, ten 933s here ranging from 1800 to 3600 hrs and only one has required transmission work thus far due to a fault caused by an improperly trained dealership mechanic. A 1050 which has the same awd principle required a new vario at 4900 hrs due to bearing failing in the vario. All covered by warranty. Both front and rear axle driven from this engineering marvel

Blimey charlie it's all got a bit complicated and expensive to drag bits of metal across fields hasn't it!!
At one time if you could drive one tractor (or even a car) you could drive them all, they were all pretty similar.
In fact Deere (think 3050) and Ford (10 series) built their market share on being any driver friendly.
Now the thinking seems to be fierce brand loyalty
All the buttons seem very miscellaneous, nothing is obvious anymore. Bloody nightmare for casual drivers on simple cart work.
All this fanciness and a constantly increasing price.
HP for HP, price has tripled in 15yrs. They're still doing the same work!!
Is it really progress?
Yes I'm definitely getting old!!
You definitely have a point, except for the bit in bold. On a 6gen Fendt, everything you need for casual cart work is a few self-explanatory buttons under the joystick (pedal mode, gear, 4wd, diff lock). No need to even touch the screen or the joystick if you don't want to.

To you maybe. I bet a lot of us would struggle!

Gear? It has gears?
Spools? Bloody infuriating when some hero has it set up so the yellow spool switch controls the blue spool and 3t of spuds drop out of the trailer because the door has opened instead of the body lifting.

Your average car driver can manage 1234 on a stick and a pair of colour coded spool levers

Sussing out how to work the puh or disconnecting a hydraulic brake line on a starship enterprise is an unnecessary mystery to unfamiliar drivers

Gen 6 Fendt can be set for multiple languages. So your casual can work in their own language, can be set up to whichever user and their own settings when they turn the tractor on.

That's handy. Get in to do a simple job and you can't even read the screen! Blinking nora
