Fendt vario ml number designation

Just a curiosity question here. Does the number designated to each size of transmision actually mean anything other than a way of identifying it. As in a 716 has a ml 140, 718-720 has a ml 180iirc and a 516 has a ml 90. Reason i ask is a ml 90 sounds quite small for a 516 compared to a ml140 in a 716 which is near enough the same power going through it.

All different. Quite a difference in size between a 90 and 260 unsurprisingly.

The first generation of Vario transmissions were named for their primary inventor, Hans Marschall and the different classes of the transmission were labeled in honor of him using the format of "MLxxx" where the x characters would indicate how many kilowatts of power could be transferred through the transmission.

So would i be right in thinking a ml 90 in a 516 is on the light side for its power then?

716 has a ml180 I think.

The letters ML come from the initial designer of these kinds of transmissions, Hans Marchal Leistungs vertsweigung

Fendt changed it type indication for the new vario's to TA , standing for Trans Axle. (with no groups anymore)

Knowing this, the ML90 was first installed in the 400 series, who went up to 120hp , around 88kw . Later it is installed in a 516 ,
who had 117kw of maxmum power. I know that this 117kw is the brute max power of the engine, and that allof of power goes
lost in the cooling power etc.. but 27kw of power is never the case.

I truly think the ML90 is a very reliable transmission that can handle allot more then 90kw.
 
Yes. To anyone considering purchasing a 160 hp Fendt I’d say it would matter quite a lot that one has a transmission capable of handling double the power of the other.
Why so blasé about a post simply seeking information 🤷🏻‍♂️

I am sure Fendt themselves know how much power can reliably put through the transmission in a 516. The only people who don't yet know how much power the gearbox can take will be people getting their tractors chipped.

Is it a larger vario fitted to a mf 6s180 thats boosting to 200hp

Pretty sure the Vario in a 6S be the same as my 7719 which is essentialy a 7S-190 in diff clothes.
Its a ML140 by the way.
