Ferguson 35 question

No need to bother with the weld, and in my view a silly thing to do, just raises the bmef above safe limits once the engine is running.

you know your engines and welding so can you enlarge on what you said... there is a local guy that fills the piston chambers with weld and I know that 40 years ago he worked for a small firm that bought 35 4 cyl very cheap and they were starting good and I believe there was a waiting list !! what is bmef??
where the firm were located 40 years ago is now a Lidl supermarket

Brake Mean Effective Pressure. Loading on the piston crown at max power output, to high and detonation( in petrol) and component failure risks increase.
